TalkTalk hopes to work with Ofcom

0

Talk Talk, the Communications and broadband giant affirmed its intentions to work with Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator regarding the net neutrality problems. Ofcom lately revealed that it was set to launch a consultation into the issue of net neutrality, where all internet traffic is treated equally. This issue had resulted in arguments and debates in the United States.

Following the completion of the latest new EU rules that relates to the failure of few Internet Service Providers to be competitive, Ofcom released a discussion paper on this neutrality issue. Along with the communications and broadband giant Talk Talk, a number of other Internet Service Providers have commented on this action taken by Ofcom.

In the beginning Ofcom believed that such a regulation was not required in this area as UK customers enjoyed the level of competition. This view of Ofcom is supported by Talk Talk who looks forward to joining the communications regulator. According to Talk Talk such a regulation was not necessary in the UK because of the availability of plenty of providers and option to switch to other providers if users are not happy, unlike the situations in United States. An official of TalkTalk said that customers in the UK enjoy heavy competition and they are free to switch to another provided if they are dissatisfied. This makes them agree with the initial view Ofcom the irrelevance of this regulation, he added.
