Sky in a deal with Virgin Media and BT; will offer its Sports channels via broadband TV packages

0

Sky has come to an arrangement with Ofcom to launch its premium sports channels via the broadband TV packages from BT and Virgin Media. A spokesperson from Sky reported that they were happy to have come to a deal which will form a protection from the short-lived consequences of the Ofcom’s decision.

Ofcom and Sky has arrived at a deal on proposals presented via regulator’s investigation into the pay TV market. This will ensure that the premium channels such as Sky Sports 1 and 2 will be offered through other providers.

Meanwhile, BT and Virgin Media will be charged the rate card price for the channels. This is expected to go on till Sky’s legal appeal to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), over other aspects of Ofcom’s plans has been realised. The spokesperson at Sky goes on to add that they plan to focus on their substantive petition. This will also be filed with the CAT in due course.

Sky, in the meantime released a statement earlier claiming “Unprecedented and Unwarranted”, Ofcom’s attempts to revolutionise the pay TV market.
