Piracy will be increased by Copyright Bill: TalkTalk
TalkTalk, one of the leading providers of broadband and homephone bundles, operating in the United Kingdom has warned the people that the Copyright Bill as written would only result in hastening the migration further from P2P.
To substantiate this view, the broadband provider cites the possibility of people developing applications and tools that would enable them to evade the measures taken by the authorities to counter online file-sharing.
Charles Dunstone, the chief executive officer of Carphone Warehouse that owns TalkTalk has warned the government of the United Kingdom to come to its senses on its proposal to disconnect the illegal downloaders from the internet. He was giving his view to the audience at an even staged by TalkTalk as part of its Do not disconnect us campaign.
It is quite interesting to observe the support the internet service provider that offers one of the cheapest business broadband packages in the UK, gets in this context. As a matter of fact, Open Rights group, civil rights group Liberty and the recently floated Pirate Party are all lobbying the UK government to make amendmends on the Digital Economy Bill.
Dunstone further emphasised that even though everyone agreed that copyright infringement was illegal, trying to counter P2P simply ignored the realities of the real world.
