Orange in liaison with BT expected to expand broadband business
Orange, the Mobile Phone Giant in a bid to enhance the reach of its’ ISP arm has arrived at an agreement with BT, to use the fixed line broadband network. BT as part of the deal, plans to incorporate the group’s infrastructure into its own network. It is also expected that around 61 Orange staff will move over to BT.
This move will benefit most consumers with increasing competition in the UK broadband market. It is also expected that this would result in reduction in the pricing of the broadband. Orange further confirms that this move could well allow it to focus more on its product offering and customer service.
The mobile phone company, in the interim is estimated to have fallen behind in the UK broadband market. Though, it can claim around 840,000 users, the group is said to have its broadband operations in the UK, under analysis over the last 10 months.
In the recent years, Orange is reported to have put in almost hundreds of millions of pound in its broadband network. However, it needs more added financing, before the network can be brought up to scratch. It is estimated that almost 65% of the UK population have access to this network
Meanwhile, the group plans to abandon its’ own network and further increase their broadband reach almost twice. This will also put them as a direct contender against other market leaders such as BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk. Additionally, the BT deal would allow the company to uphold and enhance the network performance as well as benefit from “upcoming technology developments like home and TV entertainment services. This also helps the company to improve its’ permanent broadband services to include business clientele.
The deal with BT, is also estimated to be a precedent of the move by other competitor’s like Kingston Communications, the Hull based Telecoms group. The contract is expected to help in cutting back on the expense of upholding the networks.
