One Third of the Nation will Miss the Benefits of Broadband Innovations

0

After a survey by a Government agency, the papers state that, in future, one third of the nation will be denied the benefits of high speed broadband connections.

The findings of the study by department of Treasury mentioned that, the expected Next Generation broadband of 100 Mbps speed is likely to reach only the developed areas of the nation.

The authorities are much worried about the issue, this expected phenomenon will create a gap between the growth rate in urban and rural areas in the nation. A new commission named- Broadband Delivery UK is set to analyze the issue so as to maintain equal growth rate in cities and villages alike.

While all these talks arise, the UK government is trying to cover the whole nation at least with a 2Mbps connection by 2012. According to government’s plans, the super-fast broadband will reach to 90% of the nation by 2017.

At the same time, some other reports states that, if the steering of broadband development is with private providers like BT and Virgin, only 70% of the nation will get the super-fast connection by 2017.

The Treasury Minister in charge of broadband development, Stephen Timms hangs on the plans to tax the UK fixed landlines with a 50p per month to collect the £1 billion for rural broadband supply.

He said that, only by public contribution, a venture like this will find success. Broadband alienation will repel economic, social and cultural development in the rural areas. The proposed £1 billion Next Generation Fund by public taxing will help the nation to achieve uniform growth rate in urban and rural areas.
