Hidden Charges affect Eight million broadband users
Researchers have now found out that out of six broadband users, one will be stung by broadband hidden charges. It is estimated that around 8 million broadband users have been stung by these hidden charges. This has helped the internet service providers to collect an extra £100 million from these users.
It was found that, the consumers paid an average of £44 a year as hidden costs, which included, paper billing as well as cost of non-direct debit payments. The study also found that charges were also levied for calling technical support lines and also for exceeding the download limit.
Users, who belong in the age group of twenties, are the ones who are expected to use broadband services. Their average cost a year increased to £61. It was also found that, half the users who were stung by these chargers were not aware about the contract. Ofcom, the authorized organization has been advised to look into the matter of small print charges.
