Fund raising for Rural Broadband Supply

0

A discussion was conducted last day by the British Government officials on how to provide the rural areas of Britain with fast broadband connection. The huge amount of £1 billion needed for the purpose is to be collected by taxing fixed line telephones in the country each with a 50p. The idea already has aroused little chaos.

The idea of taxing the landlines to collect the sum for providing rural Britain chance to enjoy broadband has emerged last year when ‘Digital Britain white paper’ was released. Although the idea exists, the detailed plans were not revealed until last day. The main purpose of the plan is to provide the rural Britain with broadband connection of speed no less than 2Mbps.

Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson this week, while on a meet says that, it’s not genuine to turn face from the half of the population while the other half enjoy the benefits of high speed broadband with speed of up to 50Mb. The rural Britain should be provided the same considerations that the cities receive, even though it cost a little more.

The UK telecom companies are asked to study on the case and report about the chance for the plan in not less than 12 weeks. While the rural Britain waits for the execution of the plan, there is still a worse thing as hurdle. If the Conservative party, already pledged to cut-off the landline tax wins the coming general election in June, the government will find the treasury with no enough kitty to run the plan.
