EU Telecoms Regulatory Body gets going

eu flag 300x199 EU Telecoms Regulatory Body gets goingA fresh regulatory body that comprehensively covers the activities of European telecommunications has started functioning. The new body will help in setting the agenda for mobile communications and broadband access for European telecommunications.

In the process, the new body dubbed Berec (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) created in the previous year, has also elected a chairman in it’s meeting held on Thursday.

The regulatory body, which currently is based in Brussels, is expected to duely decide on a permanent quarters. The regulator will advise the EC on telecommunications regulation such as access to next generation broadband (NGA), obligations regarding universal service and net neutrality.

It is worth mentioning here that Viviane Reding, the outgoing media and information society commissioner, had said in a statement that the establishment of Berec was a significant milestone for Europe’s telecommunications segment.
