Culture minister, Ed Vaizey to support broadband speeds campaign
Ed Vaizey, Culture minister was asked to support the broadband speeds campaign which plan to compel the internet service providers to offer an average broadband speeds.
The government has been urged by a top consumer body to take action against the misleading broadband speed advertising.
Communications Consumer Panel has written to Ed Vaizey asking him to support the broadband speeds campaign that plans to force the internet service providers to offer their typical broadband speeds instead than “up to” figures.
It suggested that customers are mislead or left confused by the “up to” headline speeds. It also noted the significant difference between the advertised and actual speeds offered by broadband providers in the Ofcom research.
While taking to Mr Vaizey, Anna Bradley said that they rely on his support in highlighting to the industry the unacceptability of the present situation and they urge to take more action.
According to the recent study published by Virgin Media, nine in ten consumers found the broadband advertised speeds misleading, whereas 94 per cent thought the need for reliable information regarding the issue.
