Cost of mobile broadband set to drop

Vodafone plans to announce the aggressive new mobile broadband. In addition, 2degrees is also expected to upgrade its network to 3G technologies. These new ideas or plans are further expected to reduce the expense of connecting to the internet through your mobile networks.

Vodafone expects to announce plans, which will close the gap between the costs for fixed and mobile broadband data, for at least some customers. According to a spokeswoman of the company, the plans are to be completed “within next quarter”. However, she also said that the expected speculation on the new pricing could be announced by next weekend.

Meanwhile, Eric Hertz, the chief executive of 2degrees mentions that the launch of it’s 3G service is months later. He went on to add that even though things were going well, they had no plans to reveal the actual date as Yet. The Company is reported to have halved the price of pre-pay calls in August, when it introduced the 2G network. It is looking to be aggressive with the mobile broadband.

According to the report, Vodafone estimates its pre-pay call rates at $1/day for 10Mb, $30/month for 512Mb as well as on- account rates at $59.95/month for 1 GB, $79.95 for 3 GB and $89.95 for 6 GB. Meanwhile, the Telecom pre-pay call rates are reported as $1/day for 10Mb, $29.95/month for 500Mb and on-account rates at $59.95/month for 2Gb and $79.95/month for 4Gb, where as 2 degrees rates it’s pre-pay calls at 50c/Mb.

Telestra service from Australia also report pre-pay rates at A$30/month for 400Mb, while the on-account rate is estimated at A$39.95 for 1Gb, A$49.95 for 3Gb and A$79.95 for 6Gb. Not to be outdone, the Orange service from Britain announces on-account rates £15/month for 3Gb and £25/month for 10Gb.

Mr. Hertz, however anticipates Vodafone’s cuts to be part of its budget cycle rather than in lieu of 2degrees plans. He says that 2degrees also plans to announce the post-paid mobile plans before the end of the year.
