uk broadband still slow Broadband Speeds – UK still lagsAccording to the results of a research carried out by a web monitoring agency, the United Kingdom still trails behind other countries in the average broadband internet speeds.

The research conducted by the firm Akamai has found out that the fastest average broadband internet access speeds were delivered by the internet service providers of the Asian IT giant South Korea, and the United Kingdom just featured in the league table at the twenty sixth place.

The league table showed that South Korea the holder of the top spot was well ahead of Japan, the country that came second, and the others in the least close to the top were HongKong and the European entries; Romania and Sweden. It is also interesting to see that Ireland occupies the sixth place in the table.

The speed check was carried out by the research agency in quarter 3 2009. According to the research results, 14.6Mbps was the average web access speed achieved by South Korea. Japan’s and Hong Kong’s achievements were 7.9Mbps, as the European countries at the top – Romania achieved 6.2Mbps and Sweden achieved 5.7Mbps.

Although the average internet access speed in the United Kingdom was not published in the state of the internet research report of Akamai, another study carried out in Britain by Broadband UK website had found that the average web access speed in the country was 4.4Mbps.
