Broadband Access Prices worry Devon Schools
It has been reported that the schools functioning in Devon have expressed their concerns on a regulatory change that could culminate in leaving them unable to afford the costs of their broadband internet connections.
The major development that accounted for the displeasure of the primary schools in the locality has been the issuing of energy bills of up to GBP 8,000. The slapping of energy bills came after the decision of the government of the UK to change the way it funded information technology.
According to a report published by the local newspaper the Express and Echo, previously the council financing for broadband came through grants from Harnessing Technology, although these have been currently ring-fenced for the hardware of IT.
Additionally, local councils were no more needed for matching any financing by the Department for Children, Families and Schools.
Meanwhile, East Devon’s Axe Valley Learning Community chairman Alan Simpson said that the local council was currently deciding on the allocation of additional finance with a view to settle bills that were unpaid.
Simpson had also said to the newspaper that a considerable sigh of relief would result from its choosing to do so.
