15 million homes have access to BT broadband
BT announced that currently 15 million homes have access to broadband over its network. The target wash achieved at the end of August with over 5 million connections over BT Retail and the rest over other companies who take advantage from the networks of BT with equal access.
In August 2002, the company had 200,000 broadband connections and within eight years, it added 14.8 million more connections. This means that around 5000 new broadband connections are offered every day.
Over 99 percent of homes in the UK have broadband access at low prices. The main reason for the low prices is the competitive market where BT owns percent of the share. When compared to the neighbouring countries, the UK’s broadband availability is significantly higher.
Wider broadband availability, low prices and high rates of adoption are the main reasons for the success of broadband in the UK, states the BT strategy director, Olivia Garfield. According to the reports, people prefer BT broadband over its rivals due to its low prices.
To install fibre broadband to two thirds of the country, BT is investing £2.5 billion. After this is achieved, the UK could make new names in the area of broadband speeds.
