Expert said that it will be hard for the UK to exceed European neighbours with regard to broadband. To achieve super-fast broadband across Europe by 2015, the government has its work outlined.

Rory Cellan-Jones said that, the country performs greatly with regard to coverage, price and choice of home broadband. Although, he said Britain is behind other European neighbours in terms of broadband connection speeds and this will make it more challenging to attain the number one position.

The expert said that the likes of Netherlands and Sweden will continue and therefore achieving the top position within the five years will be difficult. He remarked on the new plans of the coalition to provide fibre optic broadband across all communities in 2015.

The government’s future plans for the deployment of the technology have been praised by the community network specialist.

Jeremy Hunt, Culture secretary is getting prepared to outline the new strategy of the coalition in which the UK will receive super-fast broadband network in Europe.

Head of community infrastructure specialist Fibrestream, Guy Jarvis has given support for the project and was completely satisfied with the plan to entrust decision-making to the lowest level attainable.

It will ensure obtaining local first-mile networks which will be led by the local communities, he wrote on the Fibrestream blog. He said that the step top provide ‘digital village pump’ and then allowing the local communities to choose how they want to move ahead was positive.

The telecoms giant BT is all set to launch its 1Gbps fibre optic broadband in Kesgrave in the early 2011. This is as a part of its nurture fibre optic broadband development project.

The scheme will get started in the early 2011 in the Suffolk town of Kesgrave. The test will exhibit the ultimate capabilities of the fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) product. It is said that the product could offer downloads speeds of 1Gbps and upload speeds of 400Mbps, given the essential equipment and conditions.

This is much ahead to the launch of BTs FTTP that will be available in the coming year. Liv Garfield, Director of strategy at BT said that the consumer will not require “Gigabit speeds” currently. To ensure the future-proof of the fibre broadband product, it was necessary to test its maximum speed capabilities.
