Music downloading through broadband – Illegal

0

Since long time back itself, online music has been under the threat of illegal music downloading. With the recent survey conducted by internet service provider Tiscali, it is almost clear that more than 40 percent of the online subscribers’ access P2P download sites such as LimeWire and Bit Torrent.

Digital Media Survey of 2007, done by Entertainment Media Research in 2007, revealed the downloading music has been gone high. During that time period BeBo and MySpace, social networking websites have enabled democratizing the music industry. Thus many music lovers switched to online music from music through radio and television. According to the survey by Tiscali, three out of four indulging in this activity knew the illegal side of it and many thought that music industry did very little, to make them aware of the consequences of illegal downloading and how it damaged the music industry. The poll was conducted among thousand of its music channel users and amidst the readers of Drowned in Sound music magazine. What was more interesting about the survey was that a few claimed that they paid for the music in the form of purchasing vinyl, CD or digital.

On the other side were some ‘professional’ people who took the illegal music downloading bit serious and didn’t bother to put a stop to it and was however not ready to pay for the music. Experts commented that the whole practise was not a factor to worry if accessing track is prevented, then in the near future none will discover new music.

Other facts found revealed that only six percent of the illegal down loaders feared penalty and 5 percent was conscious of their ISPs monitor which will detect their activity and cut them off.
