The drawback regarding this technology is that signals are not received in suburbs, unlike that of large cities. Earlier speed of 384 KB per second was offered by UMTS, whereas the latest UMTS of High Speed Download Packet Access offers speeds of 3.6 MB per second.
Although EDGE is compatible with 3G technologies, it cannot be considered as a true 3G technology. When compared to 3G, it is faster but is relatively slower than connections of UMTS or the EvDO.
