Direct TV is adding broadband internet

0

The cable and DSL is very advantageous over Wireless and Satellite broadband as in most of the houses the infrastructure was previously available. Over the past few years digital upgrades to phone lines have took place and for about 25 years cable networks exist. Broadband over Power Lines or BPL is the new type of service available. The user can access broadband by just plugging in a modem to a wall socket. Direct TV is changing the old concepts and bringing in changes.

In order to resell this service Direct TV has decided to sign a distribution agreement with BPL provider. Direct TV has a great chance for survival as there are 16 million satellite television customers. At the first stage its agreement is intended to stay centered in the Dallas/Ft Worth area of Texas and later it can be modified or expanded. Under this offer the user can avail this service in 2008 and can use a VoIP offering in addition to it.

There is no glaring difference in functions between the BPL and other traditional DSL Internet or Cable. It is through the power lines that the data packets are sent and these are converted and transmitted through routers. Any wall socket acts as the medium for a BPL modem to plug in and later connectivity is made possible through the internet cable. In this case computer resources are not essential as in a cable or DSL connections.

Current group in their web sites states about BPL as “a best end-user experience self installation option and access to internet in minutes and availability of Home Plug modem. It offers access to high-speed broadband by using electric wiring from any electrical outlet in their home.”

This service is a boost to areas where they are forced to use slow dial up connections. With the development of BPL in urban areas it will soon flourish in remote areas as well. People residing in far away will have to use expensive satellite equipment and slow dial up connection but after BPL catching up in these areas this problem will be solved. Internet troubles faced by people in the area will be put to an end with the functioning of BPL. BPL uses power lines in this area thus is very cost effective and easy to lay the brick.

With the BPL people can come a bit closer to the modern world and can access ultramodern functions at home. In short an entire home can be controlled with BPL enabled computers, appliances, and other devices. This is not beyond ones imagination and will be achieved in the near future.
