Be and Tiscali announce financial results
November 17, 2007
It seems some of UK ISPs prefer attaching ‘unlimited’ tag to their packages than ‘highspeed broadband’. Be, the subsidiary of O2, the Spanish ISP and mobile service provier, is just one of them. All their packages offer you unlimited broadband access using their ADSL+2 technology.
Recently, the parent company O2 released the financial results which show that Be had added 7,400 new customers making its customer base comprising of 38,400 Be customers. Increased local loop bundled lines (LLU) not only indicates the growth of an ISP but also the benefits that a broadband user will receive. Be’s LLU network has 814 exchanges that can deliver Be’s unlimited broadband services via its ADSL+2 technology.
Tiscali, another ISP who offer unlimited broadband with two downstreams, has also announced robust results. Tiscali, the triple play ISP has added 20,000 new broadband customers and its broadband customer base has surpassed 2.6 million during the last quarter.
When you compare the unlimited broadband offers from Be and Tiscali, both of them offer cheap, reliable packages. When you go for a Tiscali unlimited broadband deal, you get different mixes of broadband with homephone or TV. However, Be does not offer any broadband bundle, although its packages come with high speed, unlimited download limits which often attract gamers and heavy users.
Pipex removed ‘unlimited’ tag from Pipex Max
November 14, 2007
Pipex recently revamped its packages and introduced a new package for heavy users. Ever since, Pipex was acquired by the Italian based ISP, Tiscali there had been expectations among Pipex customers that the takeover would mean some kind of change in the product line. The announcement of changes in the features in Pipex packages stand proof for it.
Earlier, Pipex Max was offering unlimited usage allowance which was now removed and 30 GB monthly cap has been introduced. All the old packages had options to bundle the broadband package with call plans like Pipex Hometime and Anytime. However, Pipex now offers free evening and weekend calls with all its packages. If you wish, you have the option to include anytime calls for just 5£, which can bring smile on Pipex customers.
The new Pipex offer - Pipex Pro comes with 100 GB download limit and it seems Pipex targets heavy users and small businesses by offering this premier package .

Unlimited broadband, though sounds attractive when read literally, however, most unlimited broadband packages would mean that this attribute only applies to usage during non-peak hours, and there is some usage limit during peak hours.
Be removes monthly cap from Be Value
November 10, 2007
UK broadband suppliers often revamp their packages to bring value to their product line. When they change the specifications of their packages, we either see an upgrade in speed or removing monthly cap from new packages. Apart from these, new features are also added like free calls or special offer of router/modem or taking away connection fee. This customer-appeasing trend has been going on for long time as the fierce competition among UK ISPs in UK broadband industry is the major reason behind it.
Recently, Be also introduced an important change in its entry-level package – Be Value. There are both good and bad news for Be Value customers. The good news is, the monthly cap of this package (4 GB) was removed. However, the speed was degraded from 24 Mb Broadband to 8 Mb (certainly it’s a bad news for Be Value customers who love speed). The balancing factor is the price of the package per month which is unchanged (£14).
Now, all Be packages – Be Value, Be Unlimited and Be Pro – come with unlimited broadband usage which you may find attractive providing that you are not a heavy user during peak hours as Be’s fair usage policy will still restrict your usage during peak hours.
Be has also slashed the monthly cost of Be Unlimited and Be Pro which come with a monthly price of £18 and £22 respectively.

Orange customer base doubles
November 3, 2007
The mobile cum broadband provider Orange released its financial results of the third quarter which shows that its number of broadband customers has doubled during the last quarter. Now, there are 1,42,000 Orange broadband customers in the UK who get ADSL broadband provided by the ISP. Compared with this number, total Orange customers were just 52,000 three months ago i.e. by the end of June 2007.
When we analyse the results and performance of Orange broadband along with the general scenario of ADSL growth in UK, the growth in number of Orange customers is quite outstanding. UK broadband providers who provide ADSL broadband like BT, AOL and UK Online had witnessed more than ten percent year on year growth in terms of revenue thanks to the increasing network of unbundled lines which stimulated the broadband uptake across the UK. Out of total connections, ADSL contributed 26.7 percent by the end of September this year which is twice the number of ADSL connections added last year.
In this context, Orange fared well by doubling its customer base during the last quarter.
Orange, recently, made some innovations in its product line by launching packages like Home Starter, Home Select and Home Max. These packages are wireless compatible and you also get option to bundle Orange phone services with your Orange broadband package.
